Finding the best schools in London for your child can be overwhelming. There are so many things to consider.
- Do you choose a London state school? If so, you need to think about where to live, the catchment areas and the quality of secondary schools feed on from your child’s primary or junior school. - There are also grammar schools in London, highly selective, which have some similarity to private schools, in terms of their academic rigour.
- If you are looking at a private education, at what age do you start? Some London families choose a London state primary schools for their children until 11 years, moving to a London private school from 11- 18 years, attracted by the small class sizes and high quality teaching. - If you child has special or additional needs, do you opt for a special school or a good London state or independent school which offers the right support?
- You may consider an international school, if you prefer the IB qualification for your child. Some independent schools, such as North London Collegiate and Godolphin and Latymer, also offer the IB.
- International families often prefer London’s bilingual schools, of which there are many excellent ones to choose from. Some of the London French bilingual schools, which are part-subsidised by the French government, such as Lycée Charles de Gaulle in Kensington, have cheaper school fees. This can be a real draw for families who have been compromised by the introduction of VAT on school fees.
- Your choice of education curriculum. For example, US families or other families preferring the US curriculum can choose from US schools in London, or other US curriculum schools in suburbs such as TASIS
- Education planning. Any school choice is made with the future of your child in mind including university choices, and the appropriate qualifications at 18.

best school options for your son and daughter. Depending on your needs, the London School Consultation can cover schools’ leadership and governance, local reputation, pastoral care, academic reputation, the quality of SEN provision, London boarding schools, sport, music and secondary schools that children progress to.
