MENTORING

Support for students at boarding school and university

Studying at a boarding school or university away from home can sometimes be overwhelming for young people. Children often need additional support to help them succeed. This is where our Mentoring service can help.  Boarding schools and universities have support systems in place. However, more input from an experienced mentor can be very valuable. We can help bridge the gap to provide peace of mind. Mentoring is particularly useful for overseas, international or busy professional families.

Why Lumos mentoring?

A Lumos mentor can visit your child at their school or university to help motivate and guide them. This can help them to become more confident and successful in their studies. Our mentor will work closely with your child to ensure that they get the very best possible results. This makes a difference not only academically, but also to their social, sporting and cultural life.

What our mentors do

Study skills

Our mentors work closely with your child to plan clear study objectives. We can work on study skills with your child to find the methods of learning work that best for them as an individual.

School visits

We visit your child at school to provide moral support and encouragement, as well as having meetings with tutors, house parents and teachers. We do this to check on progress and provide regular reports to parents.

School reports

We discuss your child’s end of term school reports with you and liaise with the school. This allows us to raise and resolve any issues of concern arising from the reports.

Resolving concerns

We liaise with the schools to resolve any concerns regarding pastoral care during term-time. As well as to bridge the gap between you and your child’s school or university.

Holiday programmes

We can arrange holiday revision courses, summer schools and tuition programmes for your child, such as art appreciation courses. This allows your child to develop and grow outside of the classroom.   Please see our Education Programmes for more detail.

Support with subject choices

Making decisions without face to face support from parents can be difficult. We help your child make important GCSE, IB, A level or university subject choices.

University advice

Going to university can be a scary process. We aim to make this transition easy by offering advice on university choices and support with UCAS applications.
