Bedales School

progressive schools

Founded in 1893 Bedales is renowned for its liberal ethos, relaxed attitude, fashionable parents and famous alumni. The point of Bedales is emphatically not in academic results; however, everyone wants to pass some exams. They believe in education being about education, learning and inspiring the desire to learn. Particularly strong subjects are English and history. Art is really extraordinarily good, with lots of pupils going on to the Slade, the Ruskin etc. Drama is huge and there’s an enormous theatre to prove it. Most of life at Bedales feels extracurricular with lots on for students to try.

Bedales lies in the heart of the south downs national park between Portsmouth, on the south coast, and London. Heathrow is an hour away by car and Gatwick a little further.
